We left on Tu Bishvat,1

And as the trees celebrated
Their new year of growth,
We were cutting roots.
The city in a forest
Looked down upon us:
Two tiny seeds
In a new garden.
Walking down Peachtree Street
I called you “Love”
Instead of “Ahuvati”2
And you blossomed
With a foreign scent.
Though we bought an umbrella,
It didn’t rain.
1. Tu Bishvat is a Jewish holiday, also called “The New Year of The Trees.”
2. Ahuvati (אהובתי), means “My love” in Hebrew
